Stories Bories.
I have always been a writer and storyteller. As a South Asian woman and child of immigrants, I obvs started out pre-med. After college, I took a sharp left into startups & tech, moving to New York City and working at companies like Bonobos and Shutterstock.
To feed my creative & sarcastic beast, I told funny stories about being a first-generation South Asian woman at comedy clubs around the city. My favorites were Gotham City and Eastville Comedy Club. One time Jim Gaffigan did a surprise performance right before one of my sets and I really had a hard time following that. It was a moment in time.
I got restless and left my job to start my own social video ad-tech business in 2016. In 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, I relocated the business and myself to Los Angeles and directed a short documentary featuring all women of color ER physicians that our team submitted to 20 film festivals. Surprise - I just got rejected from Sundance. Oh well, there will be others.
I also just finished Lonely Girl, my first pilot, and I am creating a South Asian themed NFT collection to fund it.
So here we go. Another turn.
Welcome to my journey. =)
Love,
Aneri (like Canary)
